Hera Varmah
Hera Varmah is a grassroots engagement manager at Step Up for Students. Her journey began as a recipient of the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship program, which allowed her to access educational opportunities that changed the trajectory of her life. After graduating from Florida A&M University, Hera took her personal experience and dedication to the cause to the American Federation for Children, where she worked in the communications department, focusing on external relations. Hera collaborated with school choice alumni from across the country, helping to amplify their stories and empower them to advocate for educational freedom.
Hera also became a recognized voice for school choice, advocating for a wide range of educational options and reforms. She has testified before legislative bodies in six states and has spoken before the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee to advocate for expanding school choice at the federal level.
At Step Up for Students, Hera works directly with families across Florida, ensuring they have access to the resources and support necessary to navigate the state's school choice programs. A strong believer in the power of education to transform lives, she is committed to ensuring that Florida's school choice programs are accessible and serve the unique needs of all students.
